Quick answer
What's in a Medilife hydration drip
A hydration drip is a type of IV therapy. Fluids go through a thin tube into a vein in your arm, so your body gets them straight into the bloodstream instead of absorbing them slowly through the stomach.
Depending on the drip you choose and your needs on the day, the fluids may include:
- Normal saline, a sterile salt-and-water solution that matches your body's natural fluid balance.
- Ringer's lactate, a balanced solution that also contains potassium and calcium.
- Electrolytes such as sodium and potassium. These are the minerals you lose when you sweat, and they help your muscles and nerves work properly.
The aim is simple: to replace lost fluid and help restore your body's fluid and electrolyte balance.
The time a session takes depends on the drip and the amount of fluid, so the team will tell you how long to expect when you book.
When a hydration drip may help
Most people book IV hydration when they feel drained and need to rehydrate. Common reasons include:
After time in the Dubai heat
Long hours outdoors, summer commutes or work in the heat can leave you losing more fluid than you drink. If you feel tired, dizzy or headachy after the heat, a hydration drip may help you recover. Heatstroke is different: it's an emergency, so see the safety section below.
After intense exercise
Hard training sessions, races or outdoor sports cause heavy sweating. IV fluids can replace lost fluid and electrolytes as part of your recovery.
After travel or a long-haul flight
Dry cabin air and long hours in the air can leave you dehydrated. A drip at your hotel or home means you don't have to go anywhere after landing.
After a night out
Alcohol makes your body lose fluid, which adds to the headache and tiredness of the next day. A hydration drip replaces that fluid in the comfort of your own space.
Signs your body may need fluids include thirst, a dry mouth, tiredness, headache, dizziness, muscle cramps and trouble concentrating.
If you've lost fluids because of vomiting, diarrhoea or food poisoning, see our dehydration IV drip for illness-related dehydration.
Hydration drip or a glass of water?
For mild dehydration, drinking water or an oral rehydration solution is often enough. A hydration drip is a different option, and people usually choose it when:
- they're finding it hard to drink enough, or feel too unwell or tired to rehydrate by mouth
- they want fluids delivered directly into the bloodstream
- they'd rather have a nurse handle it at home than wait it out
Afterwards, keep drinking water throughout the day. A drip supports your hydration; it doesn't replace healthy daily habits.

IV fluids at your home, hotel or office
Medilife nurses come to you anywhere in Dubai, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. A nurse typically arrives within 30 to 45 minutes of booking.
At home
Have your drip on your own sofa, with no driving, parking or waiting room. Useful when you feel too drained to go out, or have family at home to look after.
At your hotel
For visitors and business travellers who need to rehydrate after a flight or a busy day, the nurse comes to your room with everything needed for the session.
At your office
A session at your workplace fits around meetings, so you can rehydrate without losing half a day travelling to a clinic.
How your hydration drip session works
Contact Medilife
Call or WhatsApp +971 52 345 2646 and tell us your location and which drip you'd like. Our team can explain the options if you're not sure.
A nurse comes to you
A DHA-licensed Medilife nurse arrives with sterile, single-use equipment.
Health checks first
The nurse asks about your health and any medicines, and checks your vital signs, such as blood pressure and heart rate, before starting.
Your drip
The nurse places a small cannula in a vein and starts the infusion. You can rest while it runs, and the nurse stays with you throughout.
Finishing up
When the drip is complete, the nurse removes the cannula and gives you simple aftercare advice.
Is IV hydration right for you?
IV hydration is suitable for most healthy adults. Tell your nurse before the session if you:
- have a heart condition, including heart failure
- have kidney disease
- are pregnant or breastfeeding
- take regular medicines or have any allergies
If a health condition needs a doctor's opinion first, Medilife can arrange a doctor visit at home before your drip.
Side effects are usually minor, such as slight bruising or soreness where the cannula went in. If you feel unwell at any point during the drip, tell the nurse straight away.
When to call 998 instead
A home drip is not emergency care. Call 998 for an ambulance if someone:
- is confused, collapses or faints
- has a very high temperature after heat exposure (a possible sign of heatstroke)
- has chest pain or difficulty breathing
- cannot keep any fluids down, or has passed very little or no urine

It depends on the drip and the amount of fluid. The team will tell you how long to allow when you book.
Most people book directly. Before your drip, the nurse checks your health and vital signs. If anything suggests you need a medical review first, Medilife can arrange a doctor visit.
Yes. Medilife nurses visit hotels across Dubai, as well as homes, apartments and offices.
No. IV fluids must be given by a trained healthcare professional using sterile equipment. Doing it yourself risks infection, vein damage and giving too much fluid. Book a licensed nurse instead.
There's no single answer. If you're thinking about regular sessions, especially with a health condition, talk to our team or your doctor first.
Ask our team about payment options and whether insurance documents can be provided when you book.
A Medilife doctor reviews your health details before every drip, so you don't need to arrange a separate appointment. When you book, share your medical history, any medicines and allergies. At your visit, a DHA-licensed nurse also checks your vital signs before starting. If the doctor or nurse feels you need a full medical assessment first, Medilife can arrange a doctor visit.
