What 24-Hour Nursing Care at Home Means
People use “24-hour”, “24/7” and “live-in” as if they meant the same thing. They do not, and the difference matters when you are choosing care for someone who cannot be left alone.
24/7 availability
- What it means
- The nursing service can be contacted and arranged at any hour of the day or night. Medilife Home Nursing is available 24/7.
- What to ask
- Can I reach someone at night?
Continuous nursing cover
- What it means
- A nurse is with the patient through the day and night, with the hours set out in a care plan.
- What to ask
- How many hours of nursing does the patient actually need, and who covers them?
Live-in care
- What it means
- One person stays in the home as part of the arrangement.
- What to ask
- Does the patient need clinical nursing, or help with daily tasks?

Overnight nursing, where a nurse covers the night only, is a different arrangement again, and our Home Nursing service can explain it.
Nursing at home can also reduce the number of hospital stays for some patients, but it suits some conditions better than others. The right level of care is decided after an assessment, and some situations need hospital care first.
Who Round-the-Clock Nursing Can Support
Continuous nursing tends to be considered when a patient’s needs do not stop at the end of a visit. Every patient is different, so suitability is confirmed by an assessment.
Needing supervision at all hours
When a patient cannot safely be left between visits, round-the-clock nursing can provide trained supervision and a quick response to any change.
Coming home from hospital
After a hospital stay, a nursing arrangement can be assessed for the return home, so the patient has professional support from the first night.
Recovery after major surgery
Monitoring, medication and close observation matter most in the first days after an operation.
Frail or elderly with several conditions
Older patients managing more than one condition often need nursing oversight alongside help with daily life, and Medilife’s Elderly Care service can sit alongside it.
Night-time risk
Falls, confusion or breathing difficulty at night can make a patient’s family anxious. Nursing cover through the night can address that, based on what the patient needs.
Family caregiver exhaustion
When relatives have been carrying care alone, a trained nurse gives them time to rest and the reassurance that someone skilled is looking after their loved one.
Continuous nursing may be relevant for people living with stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, ALS, COPD, heart failure, kidney disease, diabetes and hypertension.
How Round-the-Clock Nursing Cover Is Arranged
Medilife Home Nursing is available 24/7, so you can contact the team and arrange nursing at any hour. That is a statement about when you can reach us. It does not by itself describe how many hours of nursing a patient receives each day.
Those hours are set in the care plan after an assessment, according to the patient’s condition, how much supervision they need and what the family can manage. Because round-the-clock cover can be arranged in more than one way, we recommend asking the team to explain how the hours would be covered for your relative before you decide.
What Your Nurse Can Do at Home
Each nursing plan is shaped by the patient’s condition and needs. Your Medilife nurse and doctor decide with you what is appropriate.
- 01
Assessment and an individual care plan
Care begins with an assessment of the patient’s condition, medication and daily needs. The plan records the tasks, hours and responsibilities, and it can be reviewed as needs change.
- 02
Vital-sign and clinical monitoring
Nurses check vital signs and watch for changes, so a doctor can be informed early.
- 03
Medication support
Medication is prescribed by a doctor and administered and monitored by a nurse, which keeps it safe and consistent. We do not give dosing guidance on this page, because decisions about medicines are made for each patient by qualified staff.
- 04
Oxygen therapy where clinically indicated
When breathing support is clinically appropriate, the doctor and nurse can arrange and monitor oxygen therapy.
- 05
IV treatment where indicated
Where a doctor recommends an infusion, it can be given at home as part of the plan. Medilife also offers IV Therapy as a separate service.
- 06
Support for the family
The team explains what is happening, what to expect and how family members can help, and keeps relatives informed.
The plan is agreed after assessment and may change as the patient’s needs change.
Who Provides Your Care and How Medilife Is Licensed
Medilife Healthcare Services LLC is licensed by the Dubai Health Authority as a Home Healthcare Center, and Medilife has provided home healthcare in Dubai since 2016. Nursing care is delivered by Medilife’s own nurses and supported by Medilife’s own doctors, who are DHA-licensed.
Who does what
The doctor assesses the patient medically, makes medical decisions and prescribes treatment.
The nurse delivers day-to-day nursing care, administers and monitors medication, and tells the doctor about any change.
A caregiver helps with daily tasks such as washing and meals, but does not provide clinical nursing. If a patient needs clinical care, a nurse is the right professional.

Availability and Same-Day Access in Dubai
Medilife provides home healthcare across Dubai, and nursing takes place at the patient’s home. Same-day access to Medilife home healthcare can be arranged, so you can start the conversation straight away. Medilife’s Home Nursing service is available 24/7, and the nursing hours are agreed at assessment.

When Hospital or Emergency Care Comes First
Home care can manage many urgent but medically stable changes, and Medilife’s Doctor on Call service can assess these at the patient’s home.
Some situations need hospital care straight away. Call emergency services without delay for sudden severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, collapse or loss of consciousness, uncontrolled bleeding, or signs of a stroke such as sudden weakness on one side, facial drooping or difficulty speaking.
If a patient’s needs grow beyond what can be managed safely at home, the care team will talk with the family about the right next step and review the plan.
Other Medilife Care That Can Support Your Family
A patient and their family often need more than nursing. Each of these is a separate Medilife service that can be arranged alongside it.
Doctor on Call
A Medilife doctor can visit to assess a sudden but medically stable change in the patient’s condition, or review how care is going. The service is available 24/7, and typical response time is approximately 30 to 45 minutes across Dubai.
Elderly Care
For older patients whose needs go beyond nursing tasks, Elderly Care at home supports daily living and wellbeing. It complements clinical nursing, and it is a different service from it.
Physiotherapy at Home
Gentle physiotherapy can help with mobility, positioning and preventing falls.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy supports everyday tasks and helps adapt the home so daily life is easier and safer.
More Medilife Services
Medilife also provides speech therapy for communication and swallowing difficulties, home blood tests arranged when a doctor recommends them, and IV Therapy when it is clinically indicated.
What Families Say About Medilife
Medilife has served more than 47,000 patients across Dubai. You can read what patients and families say about Medilife on Google and Trustpilot.

How 24-Hour Nursing Is Priced and Arranged
The cost of round-the-clock nursing depends on the care in the plan: how many hours of nursing are needed, how many nurses that involves, the patient’s clinical complexity, the interventions required and any equipment. Because every plan is different, Medilife prepares a quotation after the assessment.
Ask the team for a breakdown of what the quotation includes and does not include before care begins. If you have health insurance, ask the Medilife team about the current process for insurance or reimbursement documentation.
